Enhance the Effectiveness of Physical Filtration in Fish Tanks

 Algae in the fish tanks

Brown algae are inevitable in a fish tank. Algae eaters can solve the algae problem. However, how to get rid of green water? It is due to the effectiveness of physical filtration in the fish tank. Chlorella in the fish tank is supposed to exist anytime because the spore is airborne. Physical filtration can remove most of the impurities in water, as long as the water quality will not overly fertile, even a little chlorella in the tank, all can be intercepted by these aged filters.

Tank green water

Overcrowding tank

If the proportion of fish and aquatic plants in the fish tank is unreasonable, it will cause overstocking in the tank. It leads to the result that the fish tank filter can't filter out the debris completely, causing the algae to grow too fast and form green water.

Overfeeding

When you overfeed the fish, a large amount of food will rot and deteriorate in the water, this is the nourishment of algae, and more green algae will grow to make the water green. In addition, if there are too many organic substances in the fish tank, the water quality is turbid and unclear under strong light, and a green water tank will appear.

Physical filtration in fish tanks

Fish tank physical filtration includes Hygger bio-filter media, ceramic filter media, carbon filter, and biochemical sponge. How should they be used to exert the best filtration effect?

Why did I wash the sponge filter for a long time?

Generally, we can't wash the sponge filter frequently. Yes, it is true, but there are many impurities in my fish tank, so I use the water purifier, it makes the impurities coagulate into flocs, so I must clean the filter sponge quickly to remove large particles in it.

Another reason is that I couldn't find a suitable water pump for my tank yet. The flow rate of the water pump in the fish tank was too slow the efficiency of handling impurities was too small, so I cleaned the sponge by myself. After the water filter, I can only clean the top sponge every once in a while. If there is yellow water and green water occurs, we must strengthen the tank's physical filtration, so how should we do it?

Filter the water in a short time

First, we can change a quarter of the water, and it's better to change the water at the bottom and replace the new filter sponge.

Besides the top layer of the new filter sponge, we can add a towel or filter carpet.

2. If there is a filter carpet under the sponge, we can withdraw the carpet, because it will not have any effect at the time.

3. We also need to wipe the walls of the fish tank. Whether it is yellow water or green water, the same debris will adhere to the walls. So we must wipe the tank's walls including wiping the bottom.

4. There must have fish tank filters with a high flow rate. For example, the flow rate is more than 8 times the water in the tank, and it will likely take one or two hours to clean up the tank.

There are four key points:

1. A high flow of the fish tank filter.

2. The fineness of the filter carpet.

3. The continuous cleaning of the filter media, and the fourth is to do it in one go.

Conclusion

Generally, to enhance the fish tank's physical filtration, we only need three layers of sponge, one layer of filter carpet, and three layers of biochemical sponge at most. Too much you place the sponge, they will cause excessive blockage and cause the opposite effect.
